Sony PlayStation 2 slim console with controller

The slim PS2 turns up in every storage unit and still sells, mostly to people chasing old games. A tested console with a controller and cables lands mid-range; untested units, missing power supplies or a tired disc drive drop to the bottom.

Estimated resale range (used)

$40 – $80

A ballpark, not a quote. Condition moves this number a lot, and so does who turns up to buy it. It isn't an appraisal and it isn't a dealer's offer.

What matters when you check it

  • Test with a game disc: fast reading and clean ejecting puts it at the top of the range.
  • Check what is included — controller, power supply, AV cable and memory card all add value.
  • Note the model number on the back label, since later slim revisions are slightly more sought after.

Where the number comes from

Watching what these go for, not a record of sales. The range is a judgement call from what the same thing fetches secondhand. When an item has real sources behind it, they'll be printed here with the date they were checked.

Before you sell anything, look at sold prices rather than asking prices. Asking prices are wishes; sold prices are evidence.
