Apple iPod Classic 80GB, 6th generation
The slim aluminium-front iPod Classic with the click wheel, still sought after by people who want a phone-free music player. Working units with a healthy battery and clean screen fetch the top of the range; ones that will not hold a charge are parts-only money.
Estimated resale range (used)
$45 – $90
A ballpark, not a quote. Condition moves this number a lot, and so does who turns up to buy it. It isn't an appraisal and it isn't a dealer's offer.
What matters when you check it
- Ask whether it charges and boots to the menu; a dead or swollen battery knocks the price right down
- Listen through headphones for hard-drive clicking or skipping, a common failure on these models
- Check the screen for dead pixels and the dock connector and headphone jack for bent pins or crud
Where the number comes from
Watching what these go for, not a record of sales. The range is a judgement call from what the same thing fetches secondhand. When an item has real sources behind it, they'll be printed here with the date they were checked.
Before you sell anything, look at sold prices rather than asking prices. Asking prices are wishes; sold prices are evidence.
