About Downsize
It's probably worth less than you think — and that is usually good news, because it means the decision is easier than the worry.
What this is
Downsize answers two questions about the things people own: what is it actually worth, and what should I do with it next. Not what it cost, not what a dealer will offer first, and not what somebody is asking on a listing site — what it sells for, and what the realistic options are.
The site is a growing record: 10 items so far, each with condition notes, a price range and the next practical step. Around that sit guides for the jobs that come first — downsizing, clearing an estate, sorting a storage unit — and a directory of the local services that take things off your hands.
What it is not
- Not an appraisal service. Nothing here is a valuation you can rely on for insurance, probate or tax.
- Not an auction site, and not a broker. There is nothing to buy here and no commission to pay.
- Not a lead-generation funnel. No accounts, no email capture, no tracking, no advertising.
- Not complete. It is being built one item, one guide and one listing at a time.
How the data works
Item records are kept separately from the pages that display them, so a record can be added or corrected without rebuilding the site. Each one carries a status: sample, researched, or verified against sold listings. Everything on the site today is marked as a sample range — the numbers are placeholders to show the shape of the product, not research.
Directory listings are different: each one has a public source and a date it was checked, and the source is printed on the card. If a listing cannot be sourced, it does not go in.
Where the photo tool fits
There is a separate photo-based valuation tool at worthmore.cc that takes a photograph of an object and returns a ballpark selling range. It stays a separate tool for now. The plan is for it to become the front door of the "What is it worth?" section once the item database behind this site is worth pointing it at.
Corrections
A price database is only useful if it is right. If a range here is wrong, or a local listing has closed, that is the most useful message the site can receive. There is no contact form yet — that arrives with the next round of work.
