Pioneer SX-650 AM/FM stereo receiver, 1970s silver face

Silver-face 1970s Pioneer receivers have a steady following, and the SX-650 is a mid-power model people actually use. Working units with clean cosmetics sell easily; dead or corroded ones go for parts money.

Estimated resale range (used)

$120 – $250

A ballpark, not a quote. Condition moves this number a lot, and so does who turns up to buy it. It isn't an appraisal and it isn't a dealer's offer.

What matters when you check it

  • Test every input, both speaker channels and the tuner, and listen for hum or dropouts
  • Work the volume, balance and tone knobs through their range to check for scratchiness
  • Look at the dial lamps, veneer, faceplate and rear terminals for corrosion or damage

Where the number comes from

Watching what these go for, not a record of sales. The range is a judgement call from what the same thing fetches secondhand. When an item has real sources behind it, they'll be printed here with the date they were checked.

Before you sell anything, look at sold prices rather than asking prices. Asking prices are wishes; sold prices are evidence.
