Vintage Singer sewing machine in wood cabinet, 1950s
Singer machines in wooden cabinets are extremely common in house clearances. Most are worth modest money as furniture rather than as sewing equipment, unless it is an early hand-crank or treadle model that still works.
Estimated resale range (used)
$40 – $125
A ballpark, not a quote. Condition moves this number a lot, and so does who turns up to buy it. It isn't an appraisal and it isn't a dealer's offer.
What matters when you check it
- Copy the serial number from the plate on the machine base, since it dates the machine and separates common models from early ones.
- Open the cabinet and check the hinges, folding leaves and whether the machine still turns freely by hand.
- Look for rust on the chrome, missing bobbins and a perished drive belt, which are cheap fixes but put buyers off.
Where the number comes from
Watching what these go for, not a record of sales. The range is a judgement call from what the same thing fetches secondhand. When an item has real sources behind it, they'll be printed here with the date they were checked.
Before you sell anything, look at sold prices rather than asking prices. Asking prices are wishes; sold prices are evidence.
