Vintage Lane cedar chest, walnut finish, 1950s
Lane sold these cedar-lined hope chests by the million from the 1930s into the 1980s, and they still move locally as blanket storage. Walnut-finish 1950s models sell on veneer condition and whether the cedar lining is still intact and smelling of cedar.
Estimated resale range (used)
$60 – $140
A ballpark, not a quote. Condition moves this number a lot, and so does who turns up to buy it. It isn't an appraisal and it isn't a dealer's offer.

What matters when you check it
- Lift the lid and check the cedar lining for water stains, mildew, or peeling; the cedar smell should still be there.
- Look over the veneered top and edges for lifting, chips, and white rings, since refinishing veneer is not a cheap fix.
- Test the lock and key, the lid hinges, and any lid stay so it does not slam.
Where the number comes from
Watching what these go for, not a record of sales. The range is a judgement call from what the same thing fetches secondhand. When an item has real sources behind it, they'll be printed here with the date they were checked.
Before you sell anything, look at sold prices rather than asking prices. Asking prices are wishes; sold prices are evidence.
