Vintage external-frame hiking backpack, aluminum, 1970s
An aluminum external-frame pack from the 1970s, bought now as much for the look as for actual hiking. Brand matters a lot here — a Kelty or JanSport badge lifts the price, while an unmarked pack sells as retro decor.
Estimated resale range (used)
$20 – $50
A ballpark, not a quote. Condition moves this number a lot, and so does who turns up to buy it. It isn't an appraisal and it isn't a dealer's offer.

What matters when you check it
- Look for a brand tag on the frame or body, since named packs sell for two or three times an unmarked one
- Check the nylon for dry rot, tears and stuck zippers, and the frame for bends or missing pins
- Confirm the shoulder straps, hip belt and pins are all present, as replacements are hard to find
Where the number comes from
Watching what these go for, not a record of sales. The range is a judgement call from what the same thing fetches secondhand. When an item has real sources behind it, they'll be printed here with the date they were checked.
Before you sell anything, look at sold prices rather than asking prices. Asking prices are wishes; sold prices are evidence.
