Vintage 8-track cartridges, lot of 20, 1970s country

8-track cartridges turn up in basement boxes long after the player is gone. Most lots sell cheap to someone chasing one or two titles, so the condition of the cartridge shell and whether the felt pressure pad is intact matters more than the music.

Estimated resale range (used)

$10 – $30

A ballpark, not a quote. Condition moves this number a lot, and so does who turns up to buy it. It isn't an appraisal and it isn't a dealer's offer.

What matters when you check it

  • Check each cartridge for cracked shells and missing or flattened felt pressure pads, which stop the tape playing.
  • Look for mould or mildew on the tape and pull out any that were stored damp; it spreads through a lot.
  • Set aside any still sealed in shrink wrap - those sell separately for noticeably more.

Where the number comes from

Watching what these go for, not a record of sales. The range is a judgement call from what the same thing fetches secondhand. When an item has real sources behind it, they'll be printed here with the date they were checked.

Before you sell anything, look at sold prices rather than asking prices. Asking prices are wishes; sold prices are evidence.
