Pioneer PL-518 direct drive turntable
A mid-1970s direct-drive turntable that turns up in a lot of dens and basements. Working units with a clean platter and intact dust cover sell steadily; the value sits mostly in the motor, tonearm and whether the cover and hinges survived.
Estimated resale range (used)
$100 – $180
A ballpark, not a quote. Condition moves this number a lot, and so does who turns up to buy it. It isn't an appraisal and it isn't a dealer's offer.
What matters when you check it
- Test the platter speed and listen for rumble or wobble; a seized or noisy motor drops it to parts money.
- Check the dust cover for cracks and that both hinges hold it open, since replacements are hard to match.
- Look at the stylus and cartridge — a worn needle or missing headshell means the buyer spends more.
Where the number comes from
Watching what these go for, not a record of sales. The range is a judgement call from what the same thing fetches secondhand. When an item has real sources behind it, they'll be printed here with the date they were checked.
Before you sell anything, look at sold prices rather than asking prices. Asking prices are wishes; sold prices are evidence.
