- Count the irons and confirm every club matches in shaft, grip and head model, since incomplete sets sell for much less
- Inspect the faces and grooves for wear and check the shafts for rust or pitting near the hosel
- Note the dot color code and shaft flex, both stamped on the head or hosel, because buyers filter on those
