Oak spindle-back rocking chair
A solid oak rocking chair with turned spindles, the kind that turns up in every spare bedroom. Plain examples sell steadily to local buyers for a few tens of dollars; tight joints and a clean finish push it toward the top of the range.
Estimated resale range (used)
$35 – $85
A ballpark, not a quote. Condition moves this number a lot, and so does who turns up to buy it. It isn't an appraisal and it isn't a dealer's offer.
What matters when you check it
- Rock it and check for wobble at the leg joints and where the spindles meet the seat and crest rail.
- Look at the seat for splits, cracks or a worn cane panel, which is the usual failure point.
- Measure the overall height and seat width, since buyers with small rooms ask for dimensions first.
Where the number comes from
Watching what these go for, not a record of sales. The range is a judgement call from what the same thing fetches secondhand. When an item has real sources behind it, they'll be printed here with the date they were checked.
Before you sell anything, look at sold prices rather than asking prices. Asking prices are wishes; sold prices are evidence.
