National Geographic magazines, 1960s-1970s, lot of 50

Boxes of mid-century National Geographic issues are a standard attic find. They are common enough that single issues are nearly worthless, but a clean run of 50 from the sixties and seventies sells to collectors, crafters and decorators as a lot.

Estimated resale range (used)

$20 – $45

A ballpark, not a quote. Condition moves this number a lot, and so does who turns up to buy it. It isn't an appraisal and it isn't a dealer's offer.

What matters when you check it

  • Flip through for musty smell, water stains or mildew — damp storage ruins a whole box and is the main reason these get binned.
  • Check that the fold-out maps and supplements are still tucked inside; issues with them intact are worth more.
  • Note the date range and whether the run is continuous, plus whether they are loose or in bound library volumes.

Where the number comes from

Watching what these go for, not a record of sales. The range is a judgement call from what the same thing fetches secondhand. When an item has real sources behind it, they'll be printed here with the date they were checked.

Before you sell anything, look at sold prices rather than asking prices. Asking prices are wishes; sold prices are evidence.
