IKEA Poäng armchair with cushion

The bentwood cantilever armchair almost every household has owned at least once. Secondhand value depends mostly on the frame finish, whether the cushion is clean and unfaded, and whether the chair is complete. A birch or black-brown frame with a good cushion sells quickly to students and first-apartment buyers.

Estimated resale range (used)

$40 – $80

A ballpark, not a quote. Condition moves this number a lot, and so does who turns up to buy it. It isn't an appraisal and it isn't a dealer's offer.

What matters when you check it

  • Check the bentwood arms and side curves for cracks and splits where the ply meets the seat
  • Look at the cushion for flattened foam, stains and broken zips; a new cushion is half the chair's value
  • Confirm the frame screws, washers and the fabric seat strapping are all present and not sagging

Where the number comes from

Watching what these go for, not a record of sales. The range is a judgement call from what the same thing fetches secondhand. When an item has real sources behind it, they'll be printed here with the date they were checked.

Before you sell anything, look at sold prices rather than asking prices. Asking prices are wishes; sold prices are evidence.
